Mekelle, Tigray — The Mekelle Ortho-Physiotherapy Center (MOPC) of the Tigray Disabled Veterans Association (TDVA) has today donated 11 wheelchairs, with a total value of 300,000 birr, to the Missionaries of Charity.
The donation is aimed at supporting people with mobility challenges by improving their access to daily life activities, community participation, and essential rehabilitation support. By providing assistive devices, MOPC and its partners hope to reduce barriers faced by persons with disabilities and strengthen inclusion within the wider community.
In connection with TDVA’s mission of comprehensive integrated development and rehabilitation services, the center emphasized that the wheelchair support is part of its continuous efforts to extend practical assistance to vulnerable individuals. MOPC noted that such partnerships play a key role in reaching more beneficiaries and ensuring that disability-inclusive services are supported beyond medical rehabilitation alone.
Officials from MOPC expressed appreciation to the Missionaries of Charity for their cooperation and trust, and reaffirmed the center’s commitment to continue working with partner institutions to expand support for persons with disabilities in Mekelle and surrounding areas.
The handover of the wheelchairs marks a meaningful step toward promoting dignity, equal opportunity, and improved quality of life for people living with mobility limitations.
