Mekelle Ortho-Physiotherapy Center, in collaboration with HI (Humanity and Inclusion), has provided free orthosis, prosthesis, and physical assistance materials to persons with disabilities across 16 woredas of the Tigray region.
According to the center’s report, the support—valued at an estimated over 8 million Ethiopian birr—has benefited more than 2,400 members of the Tigray Disabled Veterans Association (TDVA) and other community members.
Types of Support Provided
The assistance included a wide range of mobility and daily living support services such as:
- Maintenance of wheelchairs
- Distribution of white canes for persons with visual impairment
- Toilet chairs
- Wheelchairs
- Different kinds of crutches
- Other mobility and support materials (including additional assistance devices counted as separate service types)
In total, the program delivered over 11 types of services, covering both distribution and maintenance support to improve accessibility and quality of life.

This initiative demonstrates the strong partnership between Mekelle Ortho-Physiotherapy Center and HI (Humanity and Inclusion) in responding to the needs of vulnerable groups in Tigray. The materials and services aim to enhance independent living, mobility, and participation in community life.
